      Yeah, he definitely flinched, which is what set off Jeff Williams. However, you can also hear a clicking sound right before Lewis moved. That’s probably what Carl was responding to when he flinched.

It’s only because of people like me who happened to record these things on our own VCR’s that they are around today. I’ve been working on digitizing my videotape collection over the past 6 years, and I still have a lot more to go.

    9.99 very slow time for an Olympic final, and second place was miles back. The standard hasn't improved a lot since then.

    • @jimmuchmore5854
      @jimmuchmore5854 2 дня назад

      9.99 was not a slow time back in 1984; it actually ranked 7th on the all-time list. You have to remember that when Lewis ran this race, only 4 other people in history had ever broken 10.00 with electronic timing. The standard of performance has improved considerably since then. As of today’s date, more than 200 athletes have broken 10.00 in the 100m, and 9.99 currently ranks 1,160 on the all-time list. To place Lewis’s 1984 performance in a 2024 perspective, the 7th fastest 100m time in history is currently 9.72 seconds.

    • @matthewrockett9637
      @matthewrockett9637 2 дня назад

      @@jimmuchmore5854 I didn't say 9.99 was a slow time back in 1984 - it was a very fast for then of course. I was saying the standard has imroved dramatically. Tonights 2024 Paris mens 100m final, even last place (9.91) would have beaten Lewis. There would have been daylight between last place and Lewis.

      @@matthewrockett9637 My Dude, You literally said: “9.99 very slow time for an Olympic Final.” IT WAS IN THE TOP 10 FASTEST 100 M IN HISTORY, Olympic Final or otherwise. In other words: Even if you included HEATS at World Championships, or World Championships Finals, or Olympic Heats, IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF TRACK & FIELD, IT WAS IN THE TOP TEN. No, My Brother, you’re not allowed to take A TIME MACHINE, and predict all of the changes IN DIET AND TRAINING these Athletes BENEFIT FROM AFTER 1984, to say: “OH, THAT WAS A SLOW OLYMPIC FINAL.” Your Mindset is completely WRONG. If Carl Lewis had The Training and Diet that BOLT BENEFITED FROM, who knows how fast a 22-year-old Carl Lewis would have run HEAD-TO-HEAD against a 22-year-old Bolt. People like you have ZERO Critical Thinking Abilities: You Label This a SLOW OLYMPIC FINAL, when in reality, 9.99 was in the TOP TEN 100M RACES IN TRACK HISTORY, Olympic Final or otherwise.

I ran in the most competitive 110MH Hurdle race in High school when I raced against Chris Nelloms and Tyrone Wheatley at the Mansfield relays in 1989 I came 3rd to those 2. Tyrone broke the 3rd hurdle in the final. I met them again at Keebler but there were some other Hurdlers from Texas, California and Florida. They still finished 1 and 2.
